New Year's Resolutions and Lent

Ok so. granted we have all I'm sure vowed, promised, set goals etc for New Year's. but yet I wonder why do we always wait for the new year?? if what we are doing is so wrong why do we have to wait til January first to stop or start doing it?? now yes.. I have made goals this year..( I want to get down to 130 lbs) but I started practicing on them a few months ago so that it wasn't so hard for me once the new year got here..I have nothing wrong with making goals. but I think people make a show of it when they really shouldn't. my husbands family is Catholic. but only in name and on Christmas and Easter. so when they give up stuff for Lent they make a big deal about it. why? why do they give up coke or meat or whatever for a few weeks when they have nothing to do with Christ the rest of the year. they never attend church never read their Bible.. nothing. yet they are quick to defend them selves whenever someone says something negative about their Lent..totally hypocritical in my opinion.. I guess I'm trying to say,, don't just wait till New Year's to change your lifestyle or whatever.we should be in a constant state of trying to better ourselves for the glory of God.

You're right. We should strive to be better people everyday.

I totally agree.......why in the world do we wait until January 1st to be GOOD? when we know we should start the day we are convicted about it.
